What is a spot hit in polo?
On an outdoor Penalty 2, the fouled team can choose to hit from the spot where the foul occurred instead of the middle of the 30-yard line. Opponents must stay at least 30 yards from the ball and outside the goal until the ball is struck or attempted — it is not a defended free hit. Once play begins, the opponents may not enter the field of play from behind the back line.
Applies to: outdoor polo.
Either member of the fouled team may take the hit — the rules do not require the player who was fouled to take it.
The alternative to the spot is the standard Penalty 2 from the middle of the 30-yard line nearest the offending team's goal.
