How to Score a Polo Game with Divot

Guides3 min readBeginner's guide

Scorekeeping is one of the most common tournament duties, and it is easier than it looks. Divot's free scorekeeper runs on any phone, keeps the clock, tallies the score, and builds a scoresheet you can export and print when the game ends.

Get to the scorekeeper

  • Tournament on Divot: scan the duty QR code, or go to divot.pro/scorekeeper, search for the event, and tap Score next to your game. Enter your name and a phone or email (so organizers know who scored), and start. Rosters are already loaded.
  • Any other game, no account: go to divot.pro/scorekeeper and tap Score a game right now.

Set up (one-off games only)

  • Pick Arena (3 v 3) or Outdoor (4 v 4), and the chukker length (7:00 is the usual).
  • Enter both team names and jersey colors, then jersey numbers. Add player names and handicaps too. Names print on the scoresheet.
  • On the last screen, add the umpires, referee and scorekeeper if you know them. They print on the scoresheet too.
  • Tournament games skip all of this.

Score the game

  1. Start the chukker. Tap Start Chukker 1, then start the clock. Scoring stays locked until the chukker starts.
  2. Goal. Tap Goal, tap who scored, confirm. In arena you can mark a 2-point goal. Not sure who scored? Pick "Unknown โ€” assign later."
  3. Foul. Tap Foul. The clock pauses. Pick the team, the player, the penalty, and whether it was converted. Tap Resume timer when the ball is struck. New to penalties? Keep the cheat sheet open.
  4. Out of bounds and cards have their own buttons.
  5. Made a mistake? Tap Undo right after you record it. Later, tap the score to open the score history and edit or delete an entry.
  6. End the chukker. Tap End Chukker, confirm, and answer the injury question. Then Start Chukker 2. The clock sounds a horn with 30 seconds left.
  7. Finish. After the last chukker, tap Finish Game. If the game is tied, you can add an overtime chukker first.

Export and print the scoresheet

  • On the game summary, tap Export / print scoresheet. On a phone, open the PDF and use Share or Print. On a laptop, print it from the PDF.
  • Not signed in? Enter your email and we send you a link to the PDF, valid for 7 days.
  • Signed in? Your one-off games stay on your scorekeeper home. Open a game's menu and tap Export / print scoresheet any time, even mid-game.
  • Spot a mistake after finishing a one-off game? Tap Edit scoresheet. The PDF updates.
  • Want spectators to follow along? Tap Share live score to send a link that updates as you score. (one-off games)

Common questions about scoring with Divot

Do I need an account?

Not for a one-off game. For a tournament game you sign in once so organizers can reach you.

Can I score a game I was not assigned?

Yes, anyone who opts in can score. Organizers review submissions and pick the official one.

What if I lose signal?

Divot saves as you score and is built for spotty field signal, but it is not a fully offline app. Keep the page open and avoid refreshing until you reconnect.

Does the screen stay on?

Yes, Divot keeps it awake while you score.

Is the scoresheet official?

It is USPA-compatible. Ask your organizer what they need turned in.
